We seek:

  • Tales of betrayal that taste like kin

  • Lies sweeter than marrow

  • Confessions from living bone

If anything, we read in the tradition of Clive Barker’s visions, Gene Wolfe’s deceptions, Jorge Luis Borges’s infinite mirrors, and Roberto Bolaño’s wastelands.

We do not want:

  • Boy-meets-anything romances

  • Personal catharsis or sentimental memoir

  • Immigration trauma or identity essays

  • Plotless transgression for its own sake

  • Safe, tidy, or redemptive endings

  • Tavern quests, chosen ones, prophecy checklists, any other well-worn tropes of heroic adventure

Limited seats. Bring your own knife. Send us your heirs. We will cook them well.

Submissions: thyesteanbanquet@posteo.net

Thyestean Banquet

Issue 0.

A feast of stories that devour their tellers. No safe words.

We hunger for grimdark fantasy, low fantasy, Sci-Fi, cosmic horror, and the exquisite rot of empires.

The banquet is coming / Your seat is reserved / Flesh is tender / Tongue is the garnish / The knives are sharp / The banquet is coming

“Too long thou liest at feast with care-free and cheerful countenance; now enough time has been given to tables, enough to wine; for such monstrous ills there needs Thyestes sober.”

——Seneca, Thyestes

“The transgression does not deny the taboo but transcends it and completes it.”

——Georges Bataille, Erotism

“Everybody is a book of blood; wherever we're opened, we're red.”
